Entrepreneurship Minor

Entrepreneurship Minor Makenzie Whitaker started her business Makenzie Morgan LLC

The Entrepreneurship Minor at FGCU is perfect for those undergraduate students that want to learn entrepreneurship but have a deeper passion for something else. You will take experiential courses that frame the entrepreneurial mindset and help lay the foundation for a potential entrepreneurial career. Employers love hiring entrepreneurial graduates because they tend to think critically, creatively, and outside the box.

Makenzie Whitaker ('19) began working on her business, Makenzie Morgan LLC, during while attending classes within the Entrepreneurship Minor. With a Major in Journalism, Makenzie used her skills to write and publish the first set of her book series, The Kidney Kronicles.

Entrepreneurship Minor Ryan Smith started his business Rolling Fort Media

Ryan Smith ('18) minored in entrepreneurship so that he could learn how to start his own company in the future. With the knowledge that he gained in his entrepreneurship classes, Ryan was able to launch a successful company called Rolling Fort Media before graduating.

The goal for any student receiving the Entrepreneurship Minor at FGCU is to experience the core entrepreneurship courses that make up our standalone B.A. in Interdisciplinary Entrepreneurship major. Minor students practice all of the same skills as our major students while having the ability to receive industry specific training from their major of choice.

Upon graduating with the Entrepreneurship Minor, students have multiple opportunities. Many of our classes encourage students to develop new businesses and work on them in our classes. This means that a student might have a business idea based on the ideas they are learning about in their major, start that business in one of our Entrepreneurship Minor classes, and create their own job in their own business when they graduate. Or, students graduating with the Entrepreneurship Minor could graduate and very quickly stand out with businesses looking to hire prospective employees that have experience with important problem-solving and business growth skills that are taught in the minor program. These are resume building skills that the experiential and project-based nature of our classes allows for students to practice and be confident with when they sit down to interview with prospective employers.

Entrepreneurship (B.S.) majors are not eligible for a minor in Entrepreneurship. Management (B.S.) majors are not eligible for a minor in Entrepreneurship if pursuing the concentration in Entrepreneurship in catalog years 2013/2014 and prior.

“The hands-on aspect of the education you get at FGCU is incredible. It's great when you have professors willing to put in the extra time to help you outside class.”
