Retention & Graduation Services

Retention & Graduation Services is located on the second floor of McTarnaghan Hall, in suite 202.

The easiest way to get in touch with Retention & Graduation Services is to email wingsup@fgcu.edu or stop by our office in McTarnaghan 202. Our office is open Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM.

Instructional/teaching faculty can access the Wings Up Early Alert form by logging into Canvas using their FGCU credentials, clicking “Help & Resources” on the left-hand navigation menu, and selecting “Academic Early Alert – Wings Up.” You will then be routed to the Faculty Early Alert Form, where you can submit nudges or early alerts for students in your courses.

Faculty are encouraged to reach out directly to Retention & Graduation Services if they are aware of a student that needs assistance but is not registered in one of their courses. Reach out to R&GS directly at wingsup@fgcu.edu and we will help you out in any way that we can.

A Nudge allows faculty to directly connect a student to resources they recommend while also notifying Retention & Graduation Services that the student may need assistance. Nudge is best used as an initial outreach attempt for a student who is struggling in their course. The nudge will generate a custom email to the student based on the faculty’s recommendations.

An Early Alert notifies Retention & Graduation Services that there is a concern about a student that requires professional intervention from their team. The student will receive personalized resources and support based on the faculty’s assessment of the concern. RGS will keep the faculty member updated on the status of the early alert.

When an early alert is submitted by a faculty member, we attempt outreach to each student at least three times, and in multiple modalities (email, phone, text) in an attempt to make contact with them. In many cases, students receive approximately five outreach attempts in a seven-day period. If a student does not respond, the case is closed as No Action in 7+ Days, and if the faculty member has requested case update notifications, they receive an email that the case has been closed (and the reason). However, our RGS Team is tracking the grades of the students who have closed cases, and continuing outreach attempts, especially to the students whose cases were closed for No Action and whose performance has not improved.

The case update emails for early alerts come from the wingsup@fgcu.edu email address. Sometimes, these emails may go to your Clutter inbox in your Outlook account. It is recommended that you drag and drop these emails from your Clutter to your Inbox in order to “train” your Outlook that these are not clutter.

There can be a minor delay between when an adjunct faculty member is added to the Workday system and when they can get access to Wings Up. Feel free to reach out to Retention & Graduation Services (wingsup@fgcu.edu) to report your access issue and we will work to get it resolved ASAP so that you can utilize the full functionality of the Wings Up system.
