FGCU Alert

There is no emergency on campus. FGCU is hosting a Disaster Day Interprofessional Simulation Friday, November 15, at the Cohen Student Union and Recreation Field 1 with regional partners in the healthcare and public safety sectors. This is a drill – a simulation – where more than 300 students are learning how best to assess, diagnose, treat and care for patients in a high-pressure emergency scenario. Even though it may look and sound like an emergency during the training exercise, the “Disaster Day” is just another example of how FGCU is providing a transformative, learner-centered education to ensure our students are workforce ready.

Annual Personal Shred Day

Keep Your Confidential Information Confidential

Each year, the Department of Records Management hosts a “Personal Shred Day” providing an opportunity for FGCU faculty, staff, and students to shred their personal documents (paper only). As identity and data theft become more prevalent, this is an ideal opportunity to safely dispose of bank records, tax returns or anything with sensitive or confidential data.

This is a free service, provided by Vital Control Records, the contractor who services the University’s paper and electronic shredding needs each month. The shred truck is conveniently located at the Cohen Student Union bus loop for drive-up service. Participants can bring as many documents as they like as there is no limit. Personal boxes and bags are loaded into a bin that is lifted into the truck via a vertical conveyor system. From a color monitor mounted to the shredding truck, participants may watch their documents being fed into the shredder. Documents are shredded to pieces 1/4” X 1-1/2” or smaller so that there is reasonable assurance that the documents cannot be reconstructed.

Please remove the following items from your documents before shredding:

  • Metal Hanging Folder
  • Three Ring Binder
  • Jumbo Binder Clips

Rubber bands, paper clips, staples, & small binder clips are all acceptable

The Annual Personal Shred Day for 2023 is Thursday, October 26 from 12:00pm-2:00pm in the Inner Loop of Parking Lot 5 (near the bus drop off by the Student Plaza).
