Congratulations to our first year Athletic Training and Exercise Science students on a successful spring semester! This picture was taken in the students’ last movement science lab class together where they studied throwing mechanics.

The Exercise Science Program and Department of Rehabilitation Sciences had a great showing at the Lee County American Heart Association Heart Walk. Students and faculty were joined by Dr. Cordova, (an event organizer) in this walk to encourage a heart healthy lifestyle and raise funds to fight heart disease and stroke in our community.
Dr. Patti Bauer and exercise science students from our department visited Lehigh Senior High School for their Annual College and Career Week. Dr. Bauer spoke with high school students about careers in exercise science and rehabilitation sciences and about opportunities at Florida Gulf Coast University. We appreciate these occasions to get our into our community and promote health professions.
The Exercise Science Program hosted a group of students from some of our state's Seminole Tribes in mid-October. Students were led on a tour of our lab space in Ben Hill Griffin, the Exercise Science lab in Marieb Hall, and some of the simulation labs in Marieb Hall. Our visitors had a great time and were excited about college and our campus!
FGCU was well represented at the American College of Sports Medicine Annual meeting in Denver with presenters, Exercise is Medicine Gold Level Campus recognition, and having our own booth.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement visited Marieb Hall as a part of their Physical Training certification course led by Sgt. Jason Fields. Exercise Science faculty facilitates the learning modules on Body Composition Analysis and Metabolic Fitness with assistance from the Exercise Science students. Each officer taking the course has their body composition analyzed, where their body fat and fat free mass is estimated. In addition, the course provides individualized information to each participant on Basal Metabolic Rate, Total Daily Energy Expenditure, and hydration level. The Exercise Science Program at FGCU has been a part of this ongoing certification course for several years.
Physical Therapy Student, Tyler Golde, was awarded the title FGCU Marieb College of Health & Human Services Graduate Student of the Year. Dr. Edwin Myers was awarded the FGCU Junior Teaching Excellence Award. The Exercise is Medicine Team received the FGCU Team Faculty Excellence Award. The team consists of 15 members from departments across campus.
