The post-baccalaureate certificate program in Molecular Diagnostics is designed for students with baccalaureate degrees in the chemical or biological sciences or clinical laboratory science, who seek certification/licensure in molecular biology/pathology. Individuals completing the program are prepared to work in the clinical laboratory areas of molecular diagnostics. Clinical experiences at community laboratories are integrated within the curriculum and enhance your growth as professionals.
Admission Requirements
- Submission of a FGCU Post-Baccalaureate Non-Degree Certificate Application to the Office of Graduate Admissions prior to the established deadline.
- Submission of a completed supplemental application for the Molecular Diagnostics Certificate program to the Department of Health Sciences prior to the established deadline.
- Baccalaureate degree from an institution that maintains accreditation by a U.S. Department of Education sanctioned accrediting body (https://www2.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/index.html) or equivalent foreign institution, as documented by official transcripts. All specific prerequisite courses for the major must have been completed within the past seven years.
- A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 for the prerequisite coursework.
- International graduate applicants are required to submit a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based test), or 213 (computer-based test), or 79 (internet-based test), or a minimum IELTS score of 6.5.
- Complete prerequisite courses in the following disciplines with a grade of C or above:
- Biology (with Microbiology, Anatomy/Physiology, Immunology, Cell Biology, and Genetics)
- Chemistry (with Organic and/or Biochemistry)
- Mathematics (Statistics)
Additional Graduation Requirements
- Students must satisfactorily complete the 23 credits specified by the certificate program.
- A grade of C or higher must be earned in all Molecular Diagnostics certificate courses.
