Student Evacuation
If forecasts predict a hurricane or other significant weather event that could cause long term power outage or potential damage to the residence halls, the Office of Housing and Residence Life will notify residents of an evacuation timeline and procedures.
Residents should seek shelter with friends and family off campus if possible. Those who are unable to evacuate will be required to reside in designated campus shelter.
Housing Evacuation Procedures
- Notify your Resident Assistant (RA) of the date and time of your evacuation.
- Take all pets, food, and items they use with you.
- Prepare to be away for 7 days - take medications, food, clothing, toiletries, electronics, course materials, and other items of importance.
- Take perishable items with you if you are evacuating to a location with a freezer and refrigerator. If power is lost for an extended period of time your food will be thrown away or may be unsafe for you to eat.
- Make sure to research shelters beforehand to find out if they are able to accommodate any needs you may have. If you have pets, you must go to a pet friendly shelter.
- Notify your Resident Assistant (RA) that you need to shelter on campus. They will provide information regarding the date and time of evacuation to the on-campus shelter.
