Transient Students

Per federal regulations, financial aid can be used only for coursework that is required for your degree program. Your academic advisor must make the determination of whether your desired transient coursework is required.

You can request approval to take a course at another Florida state college or university by:

• Completing and submitting an online Transient Student Admission Application through FloridaShines.org

• Select “Yes” on the following transient application question if you have financial aid:
1. “Have you been approved to receive financial aid (which includes Bring Futures and scholarships), and do you intend to use it for the requested courses?”

FGCU students who wish to attend a private Florida college or an out-of-state institution should meet with their financial aid advisor.

Students need to plan to pay their tuition and fees directly to the host institution by the institution’s fee payment due date. FGCU does not send funds or make payment arrangements at the host institution on behalf of the student (meaning you must pay out of pocket).

Financial aid will be disbursed based on the student's total combined enrollment (FGCU + Host School) for the semester. Financial aid is not disbursed based on the hours you are taking at the host institution until confirmation of payment in full and class attendance is verified.

You must be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours to meet eligibility requirements for most forms of financial aid. Disbursement of all aid programs is contingent on your actual eligibility and enrollment.

Financial aid is processed AFTER the host schools drop/add date and once enrollment and payment are confirmed. This could take anywhere from 7 to 10 business days from the date you submit your documentation.

A “Cross Enrollment” requirement will be added to the “My Requirements” section of Gulfline. At the end of the drop/add period, upload your class schedule and a detailed billing statement. Approved transient courses and course numbers must match your actual enrollment exactly. Documentation must include your name, name of school attending, the start and end dates of the term, course name and credit hours.  Screen shots from your student portal are acceptable.

2. Select Financial Aid tab 
3. Select My Requirements 
4. Select Aid Year from drop down list
5. Click on Cross Enrollment and upload your documents

To use Florida Prepaid to pay for your transient course(s), you should contact your host institution’s bursar or financial services office.

If there is any change in the students’ enrollment status once financial aid has disbursed, the student must immediately notify the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships. 

Return to Title IV policies apply for students that do not finish the course(s), do not satisfactorily complete the course(s), or are unable to produce a transcript from the host institution within 30 days after the end of the term.

Upon completion of the course(s), it is your responsibility to have an official transcript sent from the host institution to FGCU. Failure to produce a transcript from the host institution at the end of the term will result in the suspension of future aid.
