TITLE: Critical Thinking with international partners: Critiquing Research Articles

Project Description:

For the final project, both Thai and American students collaborated to critically compare and evaluate three research articles, focusing on qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods designs. Each team analyzed assigned research articles and developed 3–5-page narratives prior to class meetings. These narratives reflected critical thinking and included the identification of strengths and weaknesses in the articles. Areas of focus included the research problem, literature review, research questions, design/methodology, data analysis techniques, results/findings, and interpretation (e.g., discussion, implications, and conclusions).

Students applied insights from course readings, research skills, and their own academic knowledge to perform these critiques. Additionally, each team prepared a PowerPoint presentation summarizing their evaluations and delivered a brief in-class presentation to share their findings. This collaborative project emphasized the development of critical analysis skills and enhanced students' ability to evaluate scholarly research across diverse methodological frameworks.

Student Learning Outcomes:

The students were able to critically analyze and evaluate scholarly research articles, demonstrating proficiency in identifying strengths and weaknesses across qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method designs. They applied their knowledge of research methodologies to assess research problems, literature reviews, research questions, methods, data analysis, and findings, ensuring a comprehensive critique of scholarly work.

Students also developed collaborative skills through teamwork, engaging in cross-cultural discussions and integrating diverse perspectives. They enhanced their written and oral communication abilities by producing structured critique narratives and delivering professional presentations.
