ACE Mentor Program

A specialized support program for ACE students

ACE students are high school juniors and seniors that are enrolled as full-time university students. ACE Mentors are hand-selected high-achieving students that understand the transition between high school and college.

The Accelerated Collegiate Experience (ACE) Peer Mentor is an academic resource and guide to students as they begin their first year of the ACE program at Florida Gulf Coast University. The ACE program is an early admission program for high school students who are seeking advanced study options. ACE mentors are expected to participate in mentoring activities throughout both the fall and spring semesters that will assist ACE students with a successful academic, social, and personal transition into the university setting.

An ACE mentor must demonstrate the following qualifications:
- Experience as a current or former student enrolled in the ACE Program
- FGCU cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Completion of at least 24 credit hours of FGCU coursework
- Demonstrated experience in leadership, interpersonal communication, effective communication, time management, and knowledge of university resources
- Support for a diverse student population
- Understanding of healthy boundaries in peer mentoring
- Ability to effectively and professionally utilize technology
Timeline

FALL
- ACE Mentors undergo Mentor Training before classes start
- ACE Mentors assist and facilitate conversations with new ACE students at ACE Orientations
- ACE Mentors attend regular group meetings with ACE Program leadership
- ACE Mentors work with assigned mentees within ACE Elements of Honors courses
SPRING
- ACE Mentors work one-on-one in the ACE Leadership Program with assigned mentees on goal-setting and personal achievement within the following categories Personal Success, Intentional Service, Creative Collaboration, and Diversity & Inclusion
- Applications for 2020-2021 ACE Mentors are released in February
- Information Sessions for students interested in applying to the ACE Mentor position are held in February
- Selected applicants are invited to interview with ACE Program and Mentoring Programs leadership
- ACE Mentor decisions are released via email in March

Soar higher with the ACE Leadership Program

In their second semester at FGCU, ACE students can participate in the ACE Leadership Program, in which they work one-on-one with an ACE Mentor to create goals and participate in the following areas of impact: Personal Growth & Success, Intentional Service, Creative Collaboration, and Diversity & Inclusion.

ACE students that successfully complete the ACE Leadership Program will receive a special recognition and award at the ACE Graduation Celebration held in May of each year.
