Required New Student Training in Canvas

FGCU believes that some of the key components to student success is education about the fundamentals of university life. You are required to complete and pass the mandatory student training before you can register for your next semester of classes. It is your responsibility to plan accordingly and complete this requirement in a timely manner. Courtesy reminders will take place throughout the semester. Registration holds will not be lifted for students who have not completed this requirement.

Getting Started

Select Modules listed on the left under Home. Complete each module. There are 5 modules.

You can work at your own pace and modules can be completed in any order.

For best results submitting Canvas assignments and quizzes, use a desktop or laptop computer. Using a mobile device or the Canvas Student App is not recommended as it is not fully supported. We also recommend using Google Chrome or Firefox.

Modules

Make sure to complete all modules on time to register for classes and avoid registration holds. Plan on spending a collective of 5 hours to complete all the modules in the Mandatory Student Training course.
Your progress is saved as you make your way through the modules, so you can complete them in multiple sessions or sittings.

Wellness & Safety

The training consists of two modules: Alcohol and Other Drugs and Sexual Violence Prevention. We suggest you set aside about 2 hours of time to complete this requirement.

Hazing Prevention

The training consists of one module and should take about 30 minutes to complete. Students will receive a completion certificate at the end of the module.

MY FIRST SEMESTER AT FGCU WAS IN THE FALL.
- For students who first enrolled and started taking classes in the Fall, you have until September 1st before a hold is placed on your account. To ensure you can register for the Spring semester, you must complete all modules before your registration time opening.
MY FIRST SEMESTER AT FGCU WAS IN THE SPRING.
- For students who first enrolled and started taking classes in the Spring, you have until February 1st before a hold is placed on your account. To ensure you can register on-time for your Summer/Fall semesters, you must complete all modules before your registration time opening.

What if I have technical issues with one of the modules?

For the best possible experience, it is recommended that you use Google Chrome to complete the modules. Google Chrome works well with Canvas. Please note that the Canvas App should NOT be used to complete the modules, as assignment submission functionality is not enabled in the app.

How do I check if I completed all the requirements?

Select the View Progress option in the course navigation to view your progress for the Mandatory Student Training (MST) course. This page will show the completion status for all the modules in the course which are currently published and available to the student.
- If a module shows as Complete, the student has completed all the requirements associated with the module.
- If a module shows as Unlocked, the student hasn’t started working on the modules.
- If the module shows as In Progress, the student is working on the module. In-progress modules will show the specific assignments the student is missing.
