The Honors College - Student of the Year

Student of the Year (2023-2024)

The Honors College at Florida Gulf Coast University recognizes student achievement and success. Every year the college will recognize one meritorious student as the Honors College Student of the Year.

Application Information

The Honors College will identify one graduating senior from the College as the Honors College Student of the Year. This outstanding student embodies and demonstrates the mission, vision, and values of the college with dedication and distinction. A graduating senior from the Honors College who is in good standing with both the Honors College and the University and who has never been on probation would be eligible to apply for this distinction.

An application portfolio must meet the requirements below for consideration.

Deadline

Applications must be submitted electronically to the Dean’s Office no later than March 31, 2024.

Cover Letter

No more than 2 pages in length, single or double spaced, 12 point font size.

Curriculum Vitate/Resumé

No more than 2 pages in length, single or double spaced, 12 point font size.

Two Reference Letters

Each letter must be no more than 2 pages in length, single or double spaced, 12 point font size. The letters of reference can come from any administrator, faculty, staff, community leader, supervisor, collaborator, co-worker, etc.

The cover letter and letters of reference must outline achievements of the student in the Elements of Honors resulting in Honors Evolution and their personal, academic, and professional growth.

The illustrative list below is not meant to be exhaustive and the student can demonstrate experiences in the Elements of Honors that are not limited to those stated below.

Award Criteria

 

An honors student receiving this award must demonstrate excellence in the Elements of Honors – Scholarly Advancement, Cultural Enrichment, Community Engagement, and Leadership Development.

 

The award will be presented at both the Celebration of Excellence (April 16, 2024, 2:30 PM and 4:00 PM) and the Spring 2024 Honors College Graduation Ceremony (May 01, 2024, 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM).

 

The recipient must confirm that they will attend both ceremonies in person to receive the award.
