President Report 3/28/25
March 28, 2025 / Lyndsay Rhodes
Advisory Council of Faculty Senate
ACFS held elections for the new Chair and Vice-Chair for the 25-26AY on March 25, 2025. Dr. Kim Dunn of Florida Atlantic University was elected as Chair and Dr. Steve King of the University of Central Florida School of Medicine was elected Vice-Chair. Gov. Amanda Phalins’ term will end in May and Kim Dunn will take over Governorship on June 1, 2025.
Chancellor Rodriguez gave an update regarding the current legislative session. It is expected that budget for state university system will be less than years past. State will also be looking closely at how state funds are being spent. There was some discussion about the impact of federal indirect cost rates, but nothing definitive at this point.
Regulation 9.012 Foreign Influence amendment was removed from the BOG agenda due to some additional changes needing to be made. However, this is slated to be on the June BOG agenda. Changes were the result of ACFS input regarding Countries of Foreign Concern and that not all programs carry the same risk, resulting in classification of programs based on level of risk.
Board of Governors
BOG meet March 26th at the Florida A&M University. Full meeting video available on the Florida Channel. FGCU’s Student Success Plan Monitoring Report was presented to the BOG outlining our progress on the goals presented in September, 2024. The report was well received and approved, included release of $3.84 M in held funds. Chair Lamb commented on his support of all the effort and focus FGCU has placed on improving PBF metrics, but did state that he did anticipate having to have this conversation again next year. Further, he encouraged reallocation or resources/efforts to these metrics to ensure stability. (Timestamp: 2:23:34)
There was an update on the 2030 SUS strategic plan. There are still a number of areas that will be updated with specific metrics including economic impact, collaborations of distinction, operational excellence, world-class faculty metrics, and programs of strategic emphasis. We are expected to have a more comprehensive update at the June BOG meeting. (Timestamp: 1:21:46)
Board of Trustees
Next BOT meeting is scheduled for Tuesday April 8th, 2025 @ 8:30am in AB9 138. There will be a closed executive session on Collective Bargaining with the regular meeting slated to start at 9:40am or immediately upon the conclusion of the executive session. The agenda includes approval of the FGCU 2025 Accountability Plan which will be presented to the BOG at the June meeting for approval. The accountability plan is tied closely to PBF metrics and the BOG strategic plan as well as our university strategic plan. The revision to FGCU Regulation 3.003 Textbook and Instructional Materials Adoption, Affordability, and Transparency is also on the agenda, but I have not yet seen the proposed revisions. These changes are in response to the changes to the BOG Regulation regarding textbook adoption processes and faculty attestations of review. The agenda and materials for the full meeting can be found on the FGCU Board of Trustees webpage. I highly encourage you to review the agenda and materials, and get feedback to me ahead of April 8th.
