Brown, Trent (DMA)
Trent R. Brown is Professor of Music at Florida Gulf Coast University where he directs choral ensembles, teaches courses in choral literature, conducting and choral methods, and supervises student teachers. He was a recipient of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) International Conductors Exchange Program (ICEP) Fellowship and spent his fall 2017 sabbatical in Uruguay conducting ensembles, leading choral festivals, and teaching. He has presented ensembles and interest sessions at state ACDA and MEA conferences in Minnesota and Florida, and has led international performance concerts, festivals, and tours in Austria, China, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Spain, and Uruguay. He conducted the Florida All-State Reading Choir in 2017.
As the Artistic Director of Choral Artistry he conducts the adult, professional-core ensemble in multiple choral-orchestral performances and educational outreach activities in the region. In 2022 he conducted the SWFL premiere of Considering Matthew Shepard. Equally at home with instrumental ensembles, he has conducted performances with Gulfshore Opera and the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra.
Dr. Brown previously taught public high school in Minnesota and Wisconsin, and enjoys when he can work as a guest in high school classrooms and honor choirs. He is a member of ACDA, Chorus America, the College Music Society, FMEA, and the Voice Care Network. He has served as Repertoire & Resources Standards Coordinator for both University and Lifelong Choirs with Florida ACDA.
He holds degrees from The University of Arizona (D.M.A.), The University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee (M.M.), and the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire (B.M.E.). Beyond music Dr. Brown is a long-distance runner and has completed over ten full marathons, including the Boston Marathon in 2022.
