Condori, Alberto (Ph.D.)
Dr. Alberto A. Condori is a (Full) Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Florida
Gulf Coast University (FGCU). In his career, he has been recognized for excellence
in teaching and mentoring and has been awarded external grants to support his research
efforts while striving to make positive impacts on the University and community.
Dr. Condori is dedicated to academic excellence. He teaches courses at all levels
of the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, and in each, he focuses on the development
of both problem-solving and critical-thinking skills through data-driven learning
and teamwork-based activities. Most recently, he earned the 2023-2024 Senior Faculty
Teaching Excellence Award at FGCU for his efforts to support innovative and student-centered
teaching, and for cultivating habits of lifelong learning through internship-like
experiences for students through partnerships with industry and academia.
Dr. Condori is passionate about a wide range of interdisciplinary research topics.
His mathematical interests originated in Mathematical Analysis, but they have now
expanded to Data Science, Mathematical Epidemiology, Linear Algebra, and Graph Theory.
For instance, he has recently co-authored the volume Recent Progress in Function Theory
and Operator Theory in 2024 under the Contemporary Mathematics Series of the American
Mathematical Society; he has secured a second grant to conduct a data-driven study
West-Nile virus in Lee County for 2024 and 2025; and he is currently studying spectral
graph theory for clustering in a data-science project related to human trafficking
in Florida.
Dr. Condori strives to make an impact on the University and community by engaging
in a wide range of service activities. For the mathematical community, he co-organizes
conferences and regularly referees articles for research journals and publishes reviews
for the American Mathematical Society. For the student body, he mentors students in
research regularly, in both mathematics and in interdisciplinary topics, and facilitates
their participation in conferences at the local and national level. For the University,
he mentors junior faculty to ensure their professional success and retention. As recognition
to his efforts, he received the 2023-2024 Faculty Excellence in Mentoring Award. Finally,
at the department level, in addition to serving as a Graduate Program Coordinator
for six years, he has chaired search and textbook committees, co-authored calculus
competition materials, and regularly participates in curriculum development and assessment.
